How does it work? The Smart Food Label is a label tag with a testing paper using a patent-protected biogenic amine sensing technology which can provide highly sensitive colorimetric responses to the vapour of biogenic amines. This technology is patented in the United States and China. Biogenic amines are biomarkers that can reflect the freshness of food, the label is able to provide characteristic colorimetric responses to the biogenic amine vapour produced by the spoiled food and provide an easy-to-see high-contrast colour change from deep green to bright orange.
Is it safe to use the label on the food package? The biogenic amine chemosensing ink has passed the acute toxicity test and EEQ toxicity test by Vitargent which proved to have no harm to humans. Meanwhile, as the label responds to the biogenic amine vapour produced by the spoiled food, there is no direct contact between the food and label. Please do not eat the label.
How accurate is it? The extent of these colorimetric responses is linear to the reciprocal square of the concentration of the amine.
Will the surrounding condition or environment affect the results? The Smart Food Label is using a biogenic amine sensing technology which specifically responds to biogenic amines. And the plastic film on the top layer of the label helps to avoid contamination from the outside.
